Hey, guys! Uh, quick question.

Say there's someone out there that's really dangerous, and threatenin' a friend. You wanna help, but your friend already told you that it's "his business" to finish him off work it out.  You don't wanna go against his wishes, but at the same time, the guy makes you so angry that you wouldn't mind doin' it.

Help from the down low. Don't do anything on the front, because it'll alert both your friend and your mutual enemy, but do things to help your pal out without making it obvious that it's you. Things that can be passed off as coincidence, for instance.
