Well, do you mean in general or in detail? In general, you use hydraulics in place of muscles and electric impulses in place of nerve impulses, with metal - high grade steel blends - for the shell in place of bones.

Mm! Not everyone wants automail, though, so we also make regular prostheses for them. The reason they don't is because it can be very painful, particularly building the nerve ports, and then the attachment process and rehabilitation. But it's so worth it for those who take the chance, because it's as close to their original limb as it can be.

Oh, I'm a fourth generation automail mechanic! It's the family business. But it's also so amazing, the way something mechanical can take the place of flesh and bone.
