[The scene is a cramped room, full of mechanical bits and tools of all sorts. A teenaged girl is staring in the viewscreen. She reaches out and taps on the casing.]

I don't get this thing. Where did it come from? The technology is so different than what I'm used to. [She frowns then sits up, exhaling sharply so her bangs fly up away from her forehead.]

But I guess I can talk to people from here, huh? So, I'm Winry Rockbell. [A sweet smile breaks on her face.] I hope to get to know you soon.

[Naoto leans closer to the camera, her eyes squinted a bit, lower lip protruding in concentration.]

It looks a lot like a laptop, to be perfectly honest. A rather archaic design, to be sure... Hm...

A laptop. A small, portable computer. I don't think it's a technology that exists on your world. I'd say this is probably the community's doing... [She's making the face in that icon now.] It's nothing you really need to concern yourself about. What matters is that you know how to use it properly.

It's not just the machinery, though. The hardware... that's like the "body" of the computer. The software is the "brains". That's how a computer knows what you want it to do and carries out whatever instructions you input into it. That's usually the most difficult part to figure out. Even I'm more of a hardware expert than a software expert, though I've gotten a lot better at it.

I'd be more than willing to teach you, if you like. I'm certain these skills will come in handy, especially if you want to lock your posts from certain people, or to make them private to yourself. That's the first thing you'll want to learn to do, if you hope to have even a modicum of privacy.

It's all right. I was new to this place once, too, you know? If you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to answer them.

Eh... just Naoto is fine. I'm not much older than you, after all.

Heh, it's all right. People usually mistake me for someone older than I am, until they see me in person, that is. My short stature is enough for most people to mistake me for a child at times...

Yeah, it is at times... but it doesn't happen as much as it used to. I've gained much more respect among the police force now. I'll probably begin taking on casework again, once summer vacation begins.

[Her expression softens a bit.]

From what Edward told me, he sounded like a very kind and upstanding man. I wish I could have met him in person... I think Edward looked up to him.

I just... wish that Edward wouldn't blame himself for what happened. It's not right. I mean, you can't take that kind of responsibility for another man's choices.

I know. Doesn't mean it's good for him. But I'm glad he's got you and Al around to pick him up when he falls. He needs a strong support system, and I think that's the main reason he's been able to endure as much as he has already...
