[ Though the voice is girlish, it holds nothing but a sense of lackluster curiosity. In contrast, the view is vivid, playfully so — the camera sits in the midst of a large four-poster bed with lots of ruffles and drapes, pink and red and white, fit for a princess. ]

I’m playing around with that adorable duck site.

[ The considerably more energetic voice is recognizable to those who’ve heard it as that of Lambdadelta. She’s lazily sprawled out on her front as her hands fiddle around at the edges of the camera’s view.

There's a pause, and then the other voice sighs. ]

... that thing again? I don't get the appeal. [ A black cat tail rises into the frame, encircled with a blue ribbon bow that flutters as it sways back and forth. ] Making all of my books look like it too... isn't it a bit anachronistic?

[ Lambdadelta reaches off-screen toward the same side as the cat tail’s owner. She makes tugging motions. ]

I did it because you could use more ducks. Come on, don’t you think it’d be nice having more cute ducks in your life? Ducks, ducks, ducks, they’re really fun!

[ The screen trembles a bit, and then a person comes into view. It's a girl about Lambdadelta's age, with long blue hair and flat, dull purple eyes staring down with a bored expression. ]

That wouldn't be a good idea. My cats would swallow them up in one mouthful, and then you'd cry.

[ Reaching out to the other girl, Lambdadelta strokes her face with a finger. ]

Those ducks aren’t so easily killed! I guarantee that even all your cats couldn’t eat them up. Even I couldn’t kill them with my power. No, I found the most super-tough, impossible to get rid of ducks for you. No matter how much you tried, you couldn’t get them out of your books.

[ Bernkastel doesn’t shy away from the touch; rather, she seems used to it, almost absentmindedly brushing Lambdadelta’s hand away after a few moments. ]

... Well, who knows? I might have let them stay because they were enough to entertain me for a few minutes. It’s a passable present... as long as there aren’t any “ugly ducklings” in there.

Now you’re almost making me feel bad about saying it was me that put those ducks in your books. Almost~

[ Bernkastel glances at the other girl. ]

It wasn’t you...? [ Her mouth curls, a small mocking smile. ] Should I be flattered having someone else intervene like this, just like a secret admirer?

[ Lambdadelta gestures toward the screen. ]

It’s exactly like a secret admirer with crushes on dozens and hundreds of people. Even I was ensnared by its affections! It won’t let you go until you’ve acknowledged those affections by posting to the site. Even then, it’ll come back for more later. It’s that kind of pesky secret admirer.

... I see. It sounds like a certain kid. How annoying. [ Of course, she doesn’t specify just who that refers to... ]

Exactly like that! Even now, it’s been recording us talking all sweetly like this.

[ Irritation flickers across Bernkastel’s face for a moment, before she moves away from the camera with a slight scoff. ]

Of course. ... Then, that should have been enough to sate its appetite for a while, right...? A proper introduction will have to wait.

Not so fast! You’ll have to talk to the other ducks after they begin talking on this. But then it’ll go poof from all your books.

[ The view shakes as Lambdadelta shoves the book over to Bernkastel — who looks down at it with a trace more distaste than earlier. Really, how bothersome...

When she speaks, it’s almost like she’s reciting something, without any feeling in it. ]

< Nice to meet you, let’s get along peacefully. > So, please don’t bore me, okay?
