It's 2:00am here on Isla Sorna and the sound of compys (Procompsognathus for those of you unfamiliar with dinosaur slang) chirping and scratching against the walls of the trailer prevents me from getting any sleep whatsoever. With my luck, I’m probably the only one awake and definitely the only one typing away at a laptop this late at night. But, hey. Anything to pass the time.

My name is Ian Malcolm and I’m a ~~mathematician~~ chaotician. Really, I couldn’t think of a better community to join, especially one that thrives on such chaos. It would make for an interesting experiment to see if my arrival might effect the community as a whole and if it will (hopefully not) cause any turbulence. Yup. That’s chaos theory for you.

Study chaos theory, of course. Erm...simply put, chaos theory is unpredictability and learning how to use it to predict things that were once thought to be random and erratic. You know...stuff like the weather, the economy, the atmosphere, etc.

What about stuff like...human emotion? Hearts? That's pretty random.

Yes, I guess you're right. Emotions can be pretty unpredictable, especially negative emotions like anger. But I don't think chaos theory could really apply to stuff like emotion. In the end, you're the only one who can control your emotions.

Mmm...emotions don't apply to chaos theory. A "heart" is too random. So many emotions, so many ups and downs. It's just too staggering.

As much as I hate to admit it, there are some systems chaos theory just can't predict. Hearts are one of them.

Um. Yes? Uh. It's a bit of a long story.

Well, it's a funny story. Basically, there's this billionaire who one day had the bright idea of cloning dinosaurs to put into an amusement park. I was one of the unlucky bastards who was chosen as a consultant for his little pet project and was sent to a godforsaken island where a bunch of dinosaurs chased me around and nearly ate my leg.

That was four years ago.

Now, I’m being forced to go to another fun dinosaur island to document the animals in their natural habitat. With the exception of my girlfriend and daughter, I’m surrounded by idiots in a trailer with no letal weapons to defend myself or my loved ones with.

Uh, there are some other minor little details, but I don't think you wanna hear about those.

Well, I can't do anything from where I'm at. Nor do I think I want to face down aliens; I have enough problems with dinosaurs already.
