My opponent convinced two of the world leaders to start a total war. Though world-destroying technology is normally limited to those of my class, the warring countries had managed to acquire some, and decided to use them against their opponents.

What are you going to do now?

I don't know. Submit to his whims, I suppose.

What is he asking?

My companionship for one year.

All of those deaths just for you to visit him for a year?

Yes. He had no need to challenge me for such a simple prize.

...I can't believe it.

But I did nothing to prevent the tactic he took. I expected a hundred things, but never for him to manipulate the people themselves.

It was dishonorable and cowardly. Exactly the kind of tactic I should have expected from one such as Karakael.

But surely you could not have expected him to sink to this!

[elloran]

He is the Lord of Illusion for a reason. He cheats, uses lies and illusions, and dishonorably manipulates others for his personal gain.

Though I could not have anticipated this, perhaps I should have anticipated his victory. I was a fool to even accept his challenge.

The loss of so many lives should weigh heavily on everyone's hearts... What kind of place is your world?

I will accept his terms, and vow to be more vigilant in the future.

To remain with him a year, supposedly under his tutelage. Though I doubt there is anything I would want to learn from such a man.

He destroys your home in order to get you under his tutelage? That doesn't sound like a very trustworthy offer.

It wasn't my home. That was destroyed centuries ago. This was just one of many worlds, not even one I could truly call my own.

But important enough to you to be used as leverage. It still doesn't explain why he would go through such measures.

I could have denied his challenge, and simply given him the world without playing for it. Instead I was arrogant enough to believe myself stronger than him.

As for his interest in me...I cannot fathom it, and I worry that I would rather not know.

Then the world would have been owned by a man that had no problem with destroying it. A man like that has no right to own anything.

But if you don't know why he wants you, you'll be going into the situation in ignorance.

We are Inquestors. The basis of our power rests upon the right to do what we please with the worlds we rule. I can wish that only good comes from that, but unfortunately that is often naive.

I will find out soon enough. In the mean time, I will research more on him, and attempt to find his weaknesses so that I might exploit them.
