Quite interesting. There's few Witches who utilize the elements, but sometimes they have rare skill. There was talk of an old family of Witches back in my hometown who carved a palace from rock, without even putting chisel to it.
They seem like it. However elemental skill is very rare. We typically have three or four major types in a Witch Unit. Speed, Detection, Combat and Healer. Speed types are able to race in front of the pack and defeat faster enemies.
Detection seeks out cores, as well as determining transmissions and keeping lines open. Rare skills like Major Sakamoto's eye can seek out cores, and Commander Minna can accurately count the number of enemies on a battlefield within seconds.
Combat types like Lt. Barkhorn have incredible power, able to reinforce her body and weapons into feats of incredible strength. Her partner Lt. Hartmann utilizes a wind-based attack called Sturm, accurately translated as Storm.
And healers like Miyafuji are useful on the field and off, tending small to medium wounds, but Miyafuji has incredible healing power and can heal up to the most desperate of damage.
I was thirteen when I joined the army. Sixteen was the official age, but as the daughter of my country's leader, I was allowed special permission.
There are people here who might call you a "child soldier" and say that your service is unethical, but if you truly believe in the cause, you shouldn't listen to them. It is a great honor.
[She nods.] Witches can enlist officially at 10 but do not see service until 13, except under specific criteria. We're well paid and our families are supported if a Witch is felled in battle.
But historically our battle has been a very long one, since Witches have accompanied men and women of great historical value for centuries, millennium even. People get on my case because I say the word military and they feel like it's their duty to pull me out of it.
I know what I was getting into, and honestly, Witches are just another term for Service Magical Girls.
There's several who disagree. That Western man if he's still here for instance. Honestly, judging one world by another's standards is ridiculous at best.
The day I stop fighting for my country is the day Miyafuji stops ogling Sgt. Bishop's breasts every day.
The whole crux of Gallia, as well as parts of Karsland, Hispania, Orussia and several other European lands are occupied by Neuroi hives. To the south there is more pushing against them, but Gallia is currently occupied. We're on the front to defend against incursions into Britannia.
Aggression, with little other than open hostility. Neuroi have menaced our world for centuries, ever since Ancient Egypt. It's always been Witches who drive them back.
The acheologist teams in Egypt say that there was once a city that had managed to seal a Neuroi hive beneath the sands, and when the fighting began it erupted from there. That's where a lot of hives have spawned, and worked across the way.
A new hive also appeared in Karsland, right over Berlin and basically forced the Emperor and his people to move to Neue Karsland, which I believe is known as Argentina in other worlds.
Oh we are. It's just that we've got a varied amount of discipline. Commander Minna runs a strange ship so to speak, allowing everyone to do what they want as long as it isn't getting into relationships with the male staff.
It's because everyone is dealing with the stress of war in their own way that everyone is so, well, strange.
I've heard stories that Witches all over the place develop their own quirks to deal with fighting at a young age. Some of them become renowned for it, like Lt. Barhorn's strictness or Lt. Yeager's speed affection.

This is interesting to me, because in my war, we were the invaders.

Hmm, really? That's quite the thing to live through. You must have some stories.
