Y'know, I'm pretty well-versed when it comes to magic items, but I've never seen anything like this before. A journal that talks back? Definitely a new one! I kinda wish I'd thought of it myself, but oh well. The ducks are a nice touch!

I wonder how this happened to my journal, though...

Maybe one of the other mages used it for an experiment and then left it here. People leave important stuff lying around all the time.

Or maybe... I actually found a cursed item and by opening and reading it, I just doomed myself to a really horrible death! [He sounds pretty casual about that possibility and, if anything, his smile actually brightens a little.] That'd be something!

...

Or maybe it was just a fluke earlier and I'm sitting here talking to myself like a crazy person. It wouldn't be the first time, ha ha!

That'd be really cool! But only if it's a good death, otherwise it's just disappointing. Something bloody and gruesome, not boring, like... I don't know, just falling over or something!

Well, it's not like I'm in a hurry or anything! But everyone dies eventually and some of us sooner than others, so why not decide on how you wanna go out? So I decided I want my death to be really exciting!

I'm pretty good at that already, though! I'm the one that does the killing, not the other way around! So I don't really worry about that.

I'm a mage in the Plegian army. So my job is basically to zap or burn people until they stop moving!

Yeah, pretty much! Have you never met one before?

I don't think they really exist where I come from. They're just fairy tales.

Well, of course you don't need it! We don't need magic over here either, not really. But it does make some things a lot easier. Plus, it's tons of fun!
