I have a question, if I could trouble the community for advice.

How should one deal with a...'crisis of faith', I believe the term would be?

For the sake of simplicity, let's say it's faith in one's purpose for existing.

Then you find another purpose. There has to be more than just one.

When you consider the broad definition of faith, asking such a vague question could reap a multitude of different answers.

I was hoping some clarification would prevent me from being long-winded. [Unlikely.] But here goes:

Typically a 'crisis' of faith occurs when something you've fixated on - something other than the faith itself - has been compromised. What usually has to occur in order to re-establish your faith (assuming that is what you want) is to return to where you started.

Recommended reading, if you're the type, would be Endo Shusaku's "Silence." I can loan you a copy, but I only have it in Japanese.

That answer varies from person to person. It's not likely that it will be the same for everyone.

A crisis of faith can seem like it is destroying everything in your life. Suddenly nothing seems real anymore. Perhaps the best way to continue on is to find a new purpose. A new meaning to give your heart focus.

I was summoned to fight for my Master in a war. I would do whatever he asked of me in a moment's notice, and yet events lead me to believe that he does not trust me--worse, that he will betray me and cause my death.

I do not wish to question his intent or methods, but I also do not wish to die by the hands of one I would give my utmost loyalty.

You are allowed to choose your master, despite what you've been previously taught. Your master should respect you as you respect him. Otherwise, how can you serve him faithfully?
