How do you make somebody happy when they're convinced that they don't deserve it, probably because there are some people out there who want them to believe that?
If there's some people who might be responsible, try beating the shit out of them, first. That's the easiest one, so start there.
If that don't work, then try beating the shit out of the one who figures they don't deserve to be happy 'till they hurt so much they at least figure they don't deserve to be in face-breaking pain. That's halfway to happiness right there.
If you hit enough stuff something's bound to come out somewhere.
If someone is determined to be unhappy there's not much you can do about it.
Happiness is a choice, it's not a right. If they want to be happy then they'll determine why their cup is empty and figure out a way to fill it if they really want to change their level of contentment.
You can't do it for them, you can only support them.
This is a dilemma I can relate to...and I'm not sure there's an easy way. For that guy I'd give up my dominate arm if it would make him happy. I'm pretty damned skilled with runes as well, if he wanted his memory altered I'd do it in a snap. Can't say any of that would make him happy though, well at least I'm pretty sure it wouldn't.
Sometimes I feel like he wants to be left to his own devices, but I don't want to leave him alone. It's kind of difficult trying to settle things with yourself especially when the things that bother you are also the core of who you are. That's the trouble with duality...
...I hate being a complex creature sometimes, it makes you envy the Berserkers a little bit. Life's easier when you can just react to things on instinct...Warp Spasm wasn't so bad, it's the aftermath that's the trouble...
Well... I don't think you can change how a person feels. I mean, if they think a certain way, even if you don't agree with it, that's still how they feel, you know? That doesn't mean you can't be their friend and do things for them. But, I don't think you should really try to change them.
[ That someone hits a bit close to home, since her new friend seems to show signs of this kind of attitude. ]
You should understand why they feel that way, in the first place. Forcing them to be happy isn't good either. You can't change how people feel, but you can try to understand them.
*Audio? Is this person trying to force her out in the open? She knows it's impolite to answer audio with text, after all, since she doesn't hate this stranger or anything (unlike Greed), and posting her voice would out her identity... well, this person has never met her, so maybe it's okay? Maybe? She'll lock it, though.*
M-maybe... but I couldn't force them to be happy anyway. But they don't think they're good enough for all of the good things in their life.
Notice what makes them happy, and encourage them to do those things. Highlight the good things they do, for themselves or others. Most of all, support them.
Just be there for them and stop trying to force them to be. It might just end up making them feel worse that they can't just feel better because they care about you and want you to stop worrying. Just knowing that you have someone who'll care and be there for you is what someone might need more than actual help.
You cannot. A persons happiness is theirs and theirs alone, and there is little you can do to remedy their misery until they realize their happiness is not contingent upon outside influences.

I know that feeling. I'd give anything for this person's happiness, but knowing that just makes him miserable.
