I highly doubt it. I don't claim to know much of anything about the Association, but I would assume it's alive and well even now. Magi are incredibly secretive, you see--even if there were several in this very city they would surely not make themselves known.
Yes, well...I find in my experience, magi are self-centered and egotistical. They think themselves higher than ordinary humans. There are exceptions, of course...and perhaps my view is limited, yet all the same that would be my perspective on the matter.

I suppose if you have power apart from everyone else, that would place you in an isolated position. Perhaps they must keep to themselves because they were afraid to trouble others, and that has grown into a distance apparent in their manner. Of this world, I don't believe I have met one to draw any such answer.

Magic and those who used it were a bit different back then--simpler, as were most things. There was an abundance of that which most in this era would call 'supernatural', so it was practically accepted as the standard.
